The Secret of Payment Processors And What To Take Into Consideration When Choosing One

by Dan Farrell

Using payment processors in your business is vital, as they are how you will receive payment for your products or services. You will need to get a merchant account set up using one of these services.

How would you define a merchant account? A merchant account is a payment system that is set up on your website. This permits your buyers to pay online via your web page. It's important that you can have a page where buyers can pay easily with a credit card. There are a number of merchant accounts you can set up for this purpose. It is savvy business practice to give your customers many choices in the type of payment processor.

Different fees There are a lot of various different types of payment systems. Some charge monthly for the service, and others will charge you to set up an account and then a fee per transaction. You should be sure to read the fine print on the agreements you enter into with these companies before doing so. Some companies have hidden fees that you won't know about until you have started. Six month or one year terms are common, so you might get locked in. Watch for signs of these factors, because you don't want to end up putting your business at risk.

Who is out there for me to pick as a payment processor? The best to look into if your business is online are Paypal, Clickbank and 2checkout are great on the pocketbook, easy to use and quite simple to set up on a site you have for selling on the web. You don't need to know HTML with these three systems. They are known as third party payment systems.

You may wonder how these work. They will take your buyers to their secure page to use a credit card to buy your products and services. You don't have to go to the trouble of setting up your own secure page. Here are some advantages when you use 3rd party processors.

1. They offer an excellent and safe way for your customer to shop because they accept credit cards. Huge amounts of transactions occur online, and you need to be able to take advantage of that. 2. They all have tutorials and instructions on how to set them up, and you don't have to use just one, but can have a number of them. 3. You will be confident that they will handle any fraud that comes up in your transactions 4. You can use your own bank account for receiving payments from your buyers.

It's easy to set up a payment processor

You can go to the home page on the web of any of these payment processors and you will find good instructions to set them up. There are a wide array of tools offered.

You can get a shopping cart for your site which is an excellent thing to have for multiple purchases. They are like a virtual grocery cart. Your customers will make more purchases when you have a shopping cart. This system will work well for stores online and sites with multiple or bundled products.

Of course, each payment processor has it's upside and downside. I recommend Paypal as it is fast in transferring money directly to your account.

Clickbank is a good choice to have an affiliate program in place in your business. It costs a bit to set up (around $50) but they pay every two weeks and are very reliable.

I've never used 2Checkout but many marketers do. They have a very good reputation. Just know that you will have to check around for the best rates with any provider.
