Bump Proof Lock - The Importance Of Protecting Your Family

by Rex Freiberger

You may believe that your family is adequately protected when all the doors in your home are locked. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. The greatest danger in the world of lock security is lock bumping. Bump keys allow every door in your entire neighborhood to be unlocked or even opened almost soundlessly in less than a minute. Pin tumbler locks that are used by many people in America are powerless against lock bumping.

Let's face it, when it comes to home security most of us are still living in the Stone Age. Things such as the bunk keys have been around for at least half a decade and still present a danger to our privacy and well being. Thankfully, there have been a few advancements in lock design that have allowed us to now be able to get a bump proof lock installed in our homes. These locks might be called high security lock but quiet honestly they are still a thing of the past when you consider the things affluent people can buy.

Lock bumping keys pose a real danger to the security of most front door locks. Making a bump key is child's play and they can be manufactured very quickly. In just a few seconds, the lock is turned and the safety and security of your premises has been compromised for thieves and intruders.

The good news is that it is not necessary to spend hundreds of dollars to obtain a bump proof lock. Any qualified professional should be able to take a standard lock and turn it into a bump proof lock for about the same cost as a couple of spare keys. This is possible because of a new commercial product specifically designed to make such nefarious schemes impossible.

A specialized trigger key has been known to undo virtually any analogue system. This system consists of a sized blank with each space treated so it fits in the minimum possible area. The physical mechanism has just enough leverage to force the lock open, and the intruder can enter your dwelling unimpeded.

At times more costly locks are in fact more susceptible and easy to open. Expensive locks will turn more effortlessly after a bump for the reason that they are more accurately machined. Locks made of hardened steel are also easy to open by lock bumping methods, as they will sustain less damage during a bump. For bump key prevention, its advisable to use a cheaper lock as it may not resist the strength of the knock and may not turn.

The best and safest way to protect your family or possessions is with a bump proof lock. These kinds of locks are the best defense against bump key prevention. Without these kinds of locks, it is easy for criminals or trespassers to access your goods, by picking the old fashioned locks than many people currently use. Replacing your old locks with newer locks is a good investment, since many times important or valuable effects are put behind locked doors. If you want to keep your family safe, you should consider updating your locks.
